What Similect stores in your browser and in the mobile app, why, and how to change it.

Version 2026-10-10

The short version

We use a handful of first-party cookies and browser storage entries. There are no third-party trackers, no advertising cookies and no analytics companies involved — the analytics are our own, and we only collect them if you agree.

Strictly necessary

These make the service work. They cannot be switched off, because without them you cannot sign in or the app cannot render the right page.

NameTypeWhat it doesLifetime
auth_tokenCookieKeeps you signed inUntil the sign-in token expires or you sign out
app-settingsCookieYour language and level, so the server can render the right content before you sign in1 year
consentCookieRemembers your cookie choice, so we stop asking365 days
app-settingsLocal storageThe same preferences, kept for the app itselfUntil you clear it
app-themeLocal storageLight or dark themeUntil you clear it
guest_words, guest_feedLocal storageCounts free actions so limits work without an accountUntil you clear it or sign in
storage_bust_*Local storageMakes your own newly uploaded files appear immediately instead of a cached older copyUntil you clear it
nav.query.memorySession storageRemembers filters and scroll position when you go backUntil the tab is closed

Analytics — only with your consent

These are only created after you accept analytics in the banner. If you decline, nothing here is written and no events are sent. If you are not signed in, no analytics are collected regardless of your choice.

NameTypeWhat it doesLifetime
tracking_sessionLocal storageA random session identifier, so a series of actions can be seen as one visit30 minutes of inactivity
tracking_queue:*Local storageHolds events that have not been sent yet, so they survive a lost connectionUntil sent

What an event contains is described in the Privacy Policy.

In the mobile app

The app uses no cookies. What it keeps, it keeps on your phone, in its own storage that other apps cannot read:

NameTypeWhat it doesLifetime
Sign-in tokenProtected system storageKeeps you signed inUntil the sign-in token expires or you sign out
Preferences: language, level, theme, pronunciation, sound, layout of the screenApp storageKeeps the app the way you set it upUntil you clear the app's data
consentApp storageRemembers your answer in the consent banner, so we stop asking365 days
guest_words, guest_feedApp storageCounts free actions so limits work without an accountUntil you clear it or sign in
Videos and images already shownApp cacheSo they are not downloaded againUntil the phone frees the space or you clear the cache

Only after you accept analytics does the app also keep the analytics session and the events not sent yet, as the website does, and a short technical journal of its last five launches, described in the Privacy Policy. Withdrawing consent in the app's Settings deletes all three.

Signing out removes the sign-in token. To remove everything, clear the app's data in your phone's settings or uninstall the app.

News by email — also only with your consent

The same banner asks whether we may email you now and then about new material and features. It is a separate question from analytics: you can accept one and refuse the other, and refusing costs you nothing — the service works the same either way.

Every such letter carries a one-click unsubscribe, and Settings has a switch per channel. Messages you cannot switch off are the ones about your own account: payments, security and legal notices.

If you buy a subscription we may write to you about our own similar things for a year without asking again — the Privacy Policy explains it. You are offered the choice not to receive them when you pay, and one refusal anywhere stops them everywhere.

Changing your mind

Open Settings and use the cookie settings to change or withdraw your choice at any time. Withdrawing takes effect immediately: we stop collecting and the queued events are discarded.

The same applies to the letters: turn them off in the notification settings, or use the unsubscribe link in any of them.

You can also clear cookies and site data in your browser. Clearing them signs you out and resets your preferences.

Third parties

We do not embed third-party advertising or analytics scripts. Payment pages are hosted by the payment provider and follow that provider's own cookie policy; when you sign in with Google, Facebook or Apple, that provider sets its own cookies on its own pages.
