What may be published on Similect, what may not, and what happens when someone reports something.

Version 2026-08-24

What you may publish

Material you wrote or recorded yourself, material you have permission to publish, and material that is free to use — in the public domain or under a licence that allows republishing. Where a licence asks for attribution, name the author and the licence in the material.

Difficult subjects are allowed. Real language includes conflict, politics, illness and death, and a learning service that removed them would be useless. The rules below are about harm, not about discomfort.

What is not allowed

  • Material you have no right to publish — copyrighted films, books, articles, images, music or audio.
  • Sexual content involving minors, in any form. This is reported to the authorities, not just removed.
  • Sexually explicit material, and graphic violence published for its own sake.
  • Attacks on people because of race, ethnicity, nationality, religion, disability, sex, sexual orientation or gender identity.
  • Harassment, threats, doxxing, or publishing someone else's personal information.
  • Instructions for making weapons, drugs or malware, or for carrying out attacks.
  • Encouraging self-harm, suicide or eating disorders.
  • Impersonating another person or organisation.
  • Spam, advertising, affiliate schemes and link farms.
  • Deliberate misinformation about health, safety or elections presented as fact.

Reporting something

Every piece of content and every comment has a report option in its menu. Choose a reason and add a note if it helps. You need an account to report, which keeps the queue usable.

If you cannot use the button, write to main.office@similect.com with a link to the material and the reason.

What happens next

  • We look at the material and the reason. Reports of illegal content are looked at first.
  • We may leave it, remove it, restrict who sees it, or suspend the account behind it.
  • The author is told what was decided and why, unless telling them would obstruct a legal process.
  • You are told the outcome of your report.
  • Reports filed in bad faith or in bulk are ignored and may cost you the ability to report.

If you disagree with a decision

Both sides can appeal. Reply to the message you received, or write to main.office@similect.com explaining why the decision was wrong. Appeals are reviewed by a person, not automatically, and a wrongly removed piece of content is restored.

Copyright owners

If material here infringes your rights, write to main.office@similect.com. To let us act quickly, include:

  • a link to each item concerned;
  • what the work is and evidence that you own the rights or represent the owner;
  • a statement that the use is not authorised by you, your agent or the law;
  • your contact details;
  • a statement that the information is accurate.

We act on well-founded notices quickly and tell the person who published the material, so they can respond if they believe the notice is mistaken. Accounts that repeatedly infringe are closed.

Automatically generated material

Part of the catalogue is generated by artificial intelligence, and it can be wrong or inappropriate despite our filters. Report it the same way — it is treated as any other content, and a bad generation is a bug we want to know about.
